Over 2 years from 2022 – 2024 the Home? heritage project has collected and curated the lived experiences of displaced people who arrived in the North of England in the last 10 years seeking refuge and security.
This was achieved by using two methodologies -
(1) capturing people’s oral histories using the Community Reporting storytelling methodology, and,
(2) archive research into local newspaper stories about the contributions that migrant groups have made to their local communities.
The learning from these oral stories and the archive research has been used to produce the following resources. These resources are designed for use in community and civic education to create empathetic spaces where people can reflect upon the stories of lived experience, engage in discussion, and instigate change through empathy and compassion.
