Nobel winners' ‘super-material’ graphene is seen as a break-through for the future of science and medicine. Professors Sir Andre Geim and Sir Konstantin Novoselov – who developed the substance in the Manchester university lab – were at Manchester Town Hall for the honour. Sir Richard Leese, council leader, commented on the great contribution of immigrants to the city. The decision to honour the pair was made after a motion was submitted by Lord Mayor Coun Naeem ul Hussan, who praised the professor’s work for helping to secure additional research and collaborative contracts in Manchester
