Oral Stories

Here we have the privilege of sharing the oral stories collected and curated by volunteers who were trained as Community Reporters. The training ran from September 2022 to December 2023 and the volunteers learned how to gather the stories of lived experiences using the Community Reporter methodology.

The stories is cover a range of topics -

  • Stories of moving around the UK
  • Language and learning English
  • Being welcomed with kindness from locals
  • Frustration and boredom of not being able to work
  • Volunteering
  • Studying
  • Waiting on Papers
  • Feeling isolated
  • Future dreams of studying and work

These are the stories that people consented to sharing publicly. There are many more stories that were shared with their peers during the training sessions but that they didn’t want to share on a public platform and didn’t give consent to share. These stories were still included in the findings and directly informed the project.
